| Raising the APEX Phase II Name: The APEX Museum / Phase II Cost: $30 million Description: The new facility will be built on the adjoining lot owned by the current APEX museum, and will set a new direction for museums. THE APEX (African American Panoramic Experience) will not be a collection of artifacts set in a sterile environment. It will be a live vibrant, life-like re-creation of history beginning with ancient African civilizations. The visitor will walk through history with multi-media, audio animation, sights and sounds as though they were there when these events occurred. Job Increase Statistics: The APEX will create more than 490 temporary jobs, and 850 plus permanent jobs. Economic Impact: THE APEX will increase tourism throughout the metro area, which results in more revenue for the travel, hotel, entertainment and food industries. The estimated economic impact will be more than $28.6 million new dollars annually in Metro Atlanta. Fund Usage: $18 million for Phase II construction, with construction set for a 2-year plan. $12 million will go to permanent exhibitions. Installation of state-of- the art permanent exhibits will take place within 6 months of construction completion. |
